EU: Malting barley market remains lacklustre due to low activity

The EU malting barley market is still very lacklustre with limited turnover, GrainCom analysts said in their latest report.

The nominal values in the malting barley market did not move as there is a lack of activity. The same is true of new crop 2018 market. Only the feed barley market showed better activity with French feed barley finding its way into China, and French winter malting barley calculating into China vs Australian FAQ barley.

This weekend Saudi Arabia's SAUDI SAGO is tendering for 960,000 tonnes of any origin feed barley with Russia, Argentina, France and Germany being the likely origins. This demand for LH Feb and March arrival is giving further support to the feed barley market, and consequently is also setting a bottom to FAQ and winter malting barley.
